This win marked the Dodgers' eighth MLB title and the twelfth time the Dodgers and Yankees have faced each other in the World Series.

The Dodgers previously reached the World Series in October 2020, during a season overshadowed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They triumphed over the Tampa Bay Rays in six games, securing their seventh title in franchise history.

It took four years for the Dodgers to become playoff contenders again. In the 2024 postseason, they steadily improved, thanks to key performances from World Series MVP Freddie Freeman, Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, and Mookie Betts.

From the start, the Dodgers were focused on reaching the World Series. During the offseason, they made unprecedented investments, bringing in crucial players who transformed their game.

One notable signing was Shohei Ohtani, who joined on a 10-year, $700 million contract after his tenure with the Los Angeles Angels ended in December 2023. This amount is deferred, with Ohtani receiving $2 million annually during the contract’s first ten years and $68 million each year from 2034 to 2043
