The incredible numbers behind the Mizuhara - Ohtani betting scandal

It has been confirmed that Ippei Mizuhara transferred over $16 million from Shohei Ohtani’s bank accounts to cover betting debts and make new ones.

The recent betting scandal involving Shohei Ohtani and his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, has taken a new turn. Federal prosecutor Martin Estrada revealed during a press conference that Mizuhara transferred more than $16 million from Ohtani’s bank accounts.

Mizuhara allegedly lied to the bank to steal the money and posed as Ohtani to convince them to approve the bank transfers.

The betting figures that were disclosed

The report details that between December 2021 and January 2024, the interpreter made approximately 19,000 bets.

  • Winning bets: $142.27 million
  • Total losses: almost $40.7 million
  • The records do not indicate any bets on baseball games
