The Rockies spoil the return of Yordan Álvarez
Yordan Álvarez returned to the Astros' lineup after a 100-game absence, but they were defeated by the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies (38-94) pulled off the shock of the night, defeating the Houston Astros (72-60) 6-1 at Daikin Park by shutting down Houston’s offense.
The Astros struck first in the bottom of the second when Jesús Sánchez launched a solo homer. Later in the inning, they loaded the bases, but José Altuve lined out to Brenton Doyle in center, ending the threat. The Rockies flipped the script in the top of the third. A Jeremy Peña error, a Mickey Moniak stolen base, and a Hunter Goodman three-run blast highlighted the rally, pushing Colorado ahead 4-1 before Jordan Beck struck out to finally stop Houston’s bleeding.
Colorado padded its lead in unconventional fashion. Kyle Karros singled, Ryan Ritter reached on a hit-by-pitch from Hunter Brown, and Tyler Freeman laid down a sacrifice bunt. Moniak then ripped a double to drive in both Karros and Ritter, making it 6-1.
The Astros entered the ninth inning needing a six-run comeback. Mauricio Dubón drew a leadoff walk, but Jacob Melton grounded into what should have been a double play; only Dubón was retired as the 25th out. Peña struck out, and Carlos Correa walked to bring the tying run a little closer. But with Yordan Álvarez on deck, Altuve swung at the first pitch he saw and lined out to Doyle in center to end the game.

The night also marked Álvarez’s long-awaited return to the lineup after missing 100 games with a fractured right hand. The Cuban slugger couldn’t find his rhythm, going 0-for-2 with two walks. He flied out harmlessly to left in the third, battled through a full count in the eighth before rolling over a soft grounder to the left side, and otherwise never got the chance to do damage.
