The New York Yankees have reached an agreement to trade All-Star closer Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to information revealed by ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Two makeweights plus cash for Williams

Starting pitcher Néstor Cortés and second base prospect Caleb Durbin were included in the deal and are headed to the Brewers.

Williams won National League Reliever of the Year in 2021 and 2023 and was also voted the NL Rookie of the Year in 2020.

Last season, he made 22 regular season appearances for Milwaukee, finishing with a 1.25 ERA with 14 for 15 in save chances. His fastball averaged 94.7 mph, which he threw for 53.5% of his pitches, mixing it up with 45% changeups and 1.5% cutters.

Back in March he was diagnosed with two stress fractures in his back, on the left and right sides of his T12 vertebra. He returned for the 6-2 win against the Marlins at the end of July.
