The lineups are now in and the matchups are known, so we take a look at the starting pitchers and bullpens for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
These are the starting pitchers for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game
With the lineups chosen by fan vote, and of course moderated by injury and availability, for the MLB All Star Game, it is the managers who choose the pitchers. Regular season rotational issues, general health, and of course a good dollop of competitiveness determine who gets that job as well. But now Dave Roberts and Aaron Boone have made their selections for the starting jobs.
Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers will start for the American League while the National League will go to work behind Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“I plan to have a ton of fun,” Skubal said at the All-Star media day. “I’m going to go out and compete. Any time you get to toe the rubber and the guys in the other box are the game’s best, it’s going to bring out the best in you. I’m excited for the opportunity.”
Skubal is dominating on the hill this season for an impressive Tigers squad with a 2.23 ERA through 19 starts.
Paul Skenes is also pitching extremely well, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the Pirates’ record this season. Pittsburgh is 39-58 and 23-year-old Skenes has a 2.01 ERA with 131 strikeouts in 121 innings.
“The All-Star Game is something that I was lucky enough to do last year. I don’t imagine the scenario where I would turn down starting the All-Star Game,” Skenes told reporters. “It’s just such a huge honor to be on this stage and play with all these unbelievable players, some of them that I’ve watched for years. To be able to share a field with them is an awesome experience. It’s great to be back.”
