The New York Yankees have found their new third baseman. The Bronx Bombers have acquired Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

McMahon, 30, handled third base duties in 100 games for the Rockies during the 2025 season. The Yorba Linda, California native posted a .217 batting average, tallying 76 hits in 350 at-bats. A key concern with “Ry Mac” is his strikeout-to-walk ratio—he struck out 127 times while drawing just 49 walks—and he managed only 16 home runs over that span.

McMahon is under contract with the Yankees through the 2027 season. His remaining salary for 2025 is $4.19 million, followed by $16 million annually over the next two years.

To complete the trade, the Yankees parted with two of their top-20 prospects. According to MLB Pipeline, Herring, 22, ranked eighth in New York’s farm system. He pitched in both the A and A+ leagues this year, compiling a 7–3 record with a 1.71 ERA. Grosz, a right-handed pitcher, has spent two years in the Yankees’ minor league system and has progressed from the A-level to Double-A.

This is what the Yankees lineup will look like:

  • C Austin Wells
  • 1B Paul Goldschmidt
  • 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr.
  • SS Anthony Volpe
  • 3B Ryan McMahon
  • RF Aaron Judge
  • CF Cody Bellinger
  • LF Jasson Domínguez
  • DH Giancarlo Stanton
