The St. Louis Cardinals received pitcher Erick Fedde, outfielder Tommy Pham, and cash from the Dodgers and White Sox. The Chicago White Sox received Miguel Vargas, Alexander Albertus, Jeral Perez, and cash from the Dodgers.
In this trade with the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, the Los Angeles franchise received outfielder Tommy Edman and right-handed pitchers Michael Kopech and Oliver Gonzalez. However, due to the injuries of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and Bobby Miller, the Dodgers were forced to reinforce the pitching rotation for the second part of the regular season.
What Michael Kopech will bring to the Dodgers
Kopech, a 28-year-old from Longview, Texas, attended Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant. While there, he developed a baseball rivalry and eventually became friends with Patrick Mahomes.
While the right-hander’s 4.74 ERA isn’t the best this season, Kopech has a high strikeout rate.
The former White Sox pitcher has a 30.9 strikeout percentage and a 99 mph fastball. The Dodgers are expected to make him a starter for their series against the San Diego Padres that begins Tuesday.
