The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the 2024 MLB World Tour London Series at the Olympic Stadium of London. The New York franchise won 6-5 against the best team in the East of the National League. Now, they have to prepare for the upcoming series that will begin against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday while those from the City of Brotherly Love go against the Boston Red Sox.

Unlike the first game they had in the capital of England this Saturday, Bryce Harper and the Phillies bats were more subdued, although they arrived with a 0-3 lead in the sixth inning. Precisely in this inning came a double from Brandon Nimmo to drive in Luis Torrens, and then J.D. Martínez sent Pete Alonso and Nimmo to the register to make it 3-3.

In the seventh inning, the Phillies’ designated hitter, David Dahl, hit a solo home run and thereby returned the lead to the organization led by Rob Thomson. The outlook looked good for the Phillies, who were accompanied by great work from Taijuan Walker with six strikeouts, but José Alvarado could not close the game well in the ninth.

The one-run lead was gone, and the Mets took a two-run lead from London. An error by Alec Bohm opened the door to Tyrone Taylor’s 4-4. After this, the Phillies closer loaded the bases and hit a ball to Pete Alonso to make it 5-4, while 6-4 came with a passed ball, and José Iglesias scored his run.

Outstanding results of the 2024 MLB World Tour Series

Although the Phillies later got closer to 6-5, Game 2 of the London Series ended with a hit by Nick Castellanos, which caused a double play by Luis Torrens stepping on home plate and throwing to first base.

With this result, the Major League campaign concluded with successful games outside the United States in South Korea, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. The Houston Astros were the only team that came out victorious in both games in Mexico City by defeating the Colorado Rockies at the Harp Helú Stadium (with scores of 12-4 and 8-2).

In Seoul, the LA Dodgers won the first against the San Diego Padres (5-2), and then the Padres triumphed (15-11). Finally, the Phillies were victorious in Game 1 (7-2), and the Mets took the second (6-5) in London.
