When was the last time that Houston Astros got to the World Series, appearances and how many have won?

The Astros have won the 2022 World Series trophy in Game 6, a special accomplishment when considering the scandal they overcame and the idea that they’ve largely kept their team together. With that, we’re taking a look at their history in the World Series.

The Astros have been constant since 2017′s controversy

When their cheating scandal was uncovered in 2017, the Astros fired head coach A.J. Hinch and many thought it was the end of the line for Houston. Yet, in stepped Dusty Baker who brought with him a sense of structure and suddenly there was focus once again. With that, long-time players like Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Justin Verlander and Ryan Pressly were retained and it’s now clear that they - along with a few others - have been central to the Astros success since those contentious moments a few years ago. Having swept the Yankees in the NLCS, then coming back from a 1-2 deficit in the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies to now lead at 3-2, the Astros are on their way to their second pennant ever. What’s the Astros’ World Series history look like?

The Astros have in fact won a World Series before. Unfortunately, it was clinched in that said same season of 2017, which is to say that lone title is mired in controversy. After defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Astros’ pitch stealing operation was uncovered. A system which involved banging on garbage cans to tip off pitchers was discovered, and as mentioned before, then coach A.J. Hinch was dismissed following an initial year-long suspension. GM Jeff Luhnow was also suspended for a season.

Though there remains an asterisk next to that title, it didn’t stop slugger Jose Altuve from winning the 2017 MVP for the regular season, nor did it stop George Springer - now a Blue Jays player - from being named World Series MVP. Since then, the Astros have been to the World Series on two occasions and have lost both. That’s to say, the Astros are 1-3 in the World Series.
