Which MLB teams has Juan Soto spoken to? Which ones can afford him?

New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has revealed to Newsday Sports that his team has had “a good meeting” lasting several hours with free agent Juan Soto, but that he isn’t totally sure the Dominican outfielder will be re-joining long term.

“We had a good meeting. It was very honest,” Steinbrenner said. “I have no idea. We’ll be in the mix (to sign Soto).”

How much is Juan Soto looking to earn in MLB?

In addition to the Yankees, Soto has met with the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. Multiple reports also indicate that he is set to speak to the Philadelphia Phillies, and that the San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays are among the other teams who have shown interest.

The 26-year-old is hoping to receive contract offers in excess of $500 million, which would knock many teams out of the free agency race. It has been claimed only the New York teams have the financial clout to offer him the financial conditions he is looking for.

Soto dazzled in his only season with the Yankees after registering a .288 batting average with 166 hits, 41 home runs and 109 RBIs. In addition, he led the American League with 128 runs scored thanks to 129 walks in 157 games.

When will Soto make a decision on his future?

Free agents typically make a decision on their future during the Winter Meetings of MLB representatives. This year, those events will take place in Dallas from December 9 to December 12, although it has been claimed the Dominican could make his mind up before then.
