The Bronx bombers found a way to get past arch rivals the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card matchup, now they face the Blue Jays and start the series in Toronto.
Who are the starting pitchers for the Yankees vs Blue Jays? Confirmed lineups and stats for the ALDS Game 1
The Yankees and coach Aaron Boone are heading north with a chip on their shoulders. “Contrary to some thoughts up here, we’re a really good team,” Boone told reporters. The comment made reference to a remark made by Buck Martinez on Sep. 9, “The Yankees, they’re not a good team,” he said during a game between the Astros and Blue Jays.
Who are the starting pitchers for Game 1?
Kevin Gausman will take the mound to start things off for the Blue Jays. The RHP finished the 2025 regular season with a 10-11 record and a 3.59 ERA. He finished 11th in the league with a 1.06 WHIP and got a total of 189 Ks.
The Yankees will start Luis Gil for Game 1 in Toronto. The RHP is back and stronger than ever after missing most of the season due to a lat injury sustained in Spring Training. He came back to the Yankees at the beginning of August and has had 11 appearances over the last two monts with a 4-1 record, 3.32 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Gil was an important part of the team that made it to the World Series in 2024 after making brief appearances for the Yankees in 2021 and 2022.
Possible lineups for Game 1
Neither team is expected to make any major lineup changes to their normal list. The Yankees have yet to confirm, but we can expect to see the following order at the plate:
Yankees possible lineup
- T Grisham CF
- A. Judge RF
- C. Bellinger LF
- B. Rice 1B
- G. Stanton DH
- J. Chisholm Jr. 2B
- R. McMahon 3B
- A. Volpe SS
- A. Wells C
For the Blue Jays, the lineup should look as follows:
- G. Springer DH
- N. Lukes RF
- V. Guerrero Jr. 1B
- A. Barger 3B
- A. Kirk C
- D. Varsho CF
- A. Santander LF
- A. Gimenez SS
- E. Clement 2B
The lineups are our best guess at who will play where in the field and the hitting order. We’ll update the info as soon as we have the official lineups.
The Blue Jays are without their top hitter Bo Bichette, with an injured knee, but they go into this series with an 8-5 record against the Yankees in 2025. Max Scherzer isn’t on the roster either and that might be the last we see of him after a disappointing 2025 season that cost Toronto $15.5 million.
