Who will replace injured Luis Gil on Yankees roster?
The Yankees pitcher was placed on the 15-day injured list with a lower back strain so backup has been called upon.
The New York Yankees not only lost the first game of the series against the Cleveland Guardians, but the Big Apple franchise also suffered the loss of one of their star pitchers due to injury.
What injury does Luis Gil have?
The Yankees announced that Luis Gil has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a back strain. The Dominican pitcher left the mound after the third inning. The right-hander allowed three runs, issued six walks, and struck out three batters.
Hailing from Azua, Dominican Republic, Gil was one of the Yankees’ top pitchers. The 26-year-old made 24 starts for the team, finishing with a 12-6 record and a 3.39 ERA. The Dominican player worked through 124 and two-thirds innings, striking out 144 opposing batters.
Yankees call up Will Warren from the minors
To fill the void left by Gil, the Yankees called up pitcher Will Warren from their Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Yankees rookie has already made three starts in the Major Leagues during the 2024 season, but he has struggled against hitters.
Wearing the number ‘98′ for New York, Warren has an ERA of 8.59 after allowing 14 runs in 14 and two-thirds innings of work. With this change, the Yankees’ starting rotation is now limited to Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, Marcus Stroman, Néstor Cortés, and Warren.
