Thursday was one of those dark nights in the Bronx that sometimes happen to the Yankees — but never against the Twins.

The Yankees (8-5), who have won their first four series of the season, entered Thursday’s game vs. Minnesota with the best record of any team against an intra-league opponent since 2002- 98-38. But in a shocking turn of events, they left the field with a brutal 11-2 loss to the Twins, allowing at least 11 runs for the first time since July 14, 1995, when Brad Radke beat Sterling Hitchcock.

According to ESPN, “the Yankees allowed nine runs in the 1st inning Thursday. That ties the most they’ve ever allowed in the 1st in franchise history. This is the 121st season of Yankees baseball.”

Jhony Brito was knocked out of the game in the first inning as Minnesota crushed three straight home runs.

Yankees playoff record vs. Twins

The Twins are 772-1136 against the Yankees, who have actually dominated Minnesota with a 16-2 record in postseason history.

New York had won 14 of their past 16 series against the Twins dating to July 2014, while the Twins have lost 13 games to the Yankees out of 16 straight postseason losses. The 16-game skid marks the longest postseason losing streak ever among the four major North American sports, tied with the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks (1975-79).

When was the last time the Twins won the Yankees?

In May 2019, the Twins won a game at Yankee Stadium, defeating the Yankees 7-3 for the first time since June 26, 2016.

Minnesota went 2-5 against the Yankees last season, including 1-3 against the Yankees in New York. Since the 2015 season, the Twins have been 3-21 at Yankee Stadium during the regular season.
