Sixers starting five
With no Embiid, Paul Reed is going to be the one plugging up the paint on defense while Maxey, Oubre Jr. and Tobias Harris looking to make up for the 35 points a game on the bench.
Magic starting five
The Magic used to be one of the worst teams in the league but this starting five is growing up before our eyes. Led by Paolo Banchero, Anthony Black and Franz Wagner are staring to find their stride while Jalen Suggs and Wendall Carter Jr. are giving some good performances on both sides of the ball.
How the East is looking
Taking a look at the Eastern Conference standings, we see the 20-9 Sixers coming into the night in third place, behind the first placed Celtics at 23-6 and the Bucks at 22-8. Right behind the Sixers sit the Magic in fourth at 18-11 with their young team getting better in every game. The mission for the Sixers will be a title, but the Magic will be aiming at getting Orland back in the playoffs for the first time since the Bubble.
AB coming off a career night
While the talk might surround Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the Magic’s rookie sensation Anthony Black is starting to find his way after being drafted 6th overall out of the University of Arkansas. He had a career high 23 points while driving four threes and coming up with four steals. That puts him in elite air when it comes to the history of this franchise. Jameer Nelson is the only other rookie to hit 4 threes and come up with 4 steals in a game.
KOJ to the rescue
With no Joel Embiid in the first half of the Sixers four game road trip they are going to have to find some big performances from their guys that usually stand in the big man's shadow. Kelly Obure Jr. had 25 points last game, teaming up with Tobias Harris for a total of 52 but it wasn't enough for the Sixers to made up for the absence of 35 points and 11 rebounds a game.
Sixers last game
The Sixers started their first of a four game road trip in Miami without Joel Embiid who missed their Christmas Day game with an ankle injury. With out the reigning MVP, Philly had to rely on Tobias Harris and Kelly Oubre Jr. but they weren’t enough to fend off a career night from Rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. who had 31 points. Miami dominated the 76ers on the boards, out rebounding the Sixers 56-36. The game was tied going into the final quarter, but the Heat took the lead with 10 minutes to go and never gave it back.
