Alarm bells in Dallas with rumours Doncic could be ill

Rumours are circulating that Luka Doncic might be suffering an illness which would explain his discreet performance against the Warriors.

After his buccaneering displays for the Dallas Mavericks throughout the playoffs, Luka Doncic was comparatively low-key in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Warriors. Had it been any other player, it might have been considered an acceptable display - but he was far from the level we have been accustomed to seeing.

According to rumours doing the rounds, Doncic’s dip in form could be related to some kind of illness, as TNT pundit Kevin Harlan fears, “I hear he’s sick today. I guess he was up most of the night and ill. ... I’ve heard it now from two different people so I’m assuming it’s probably true,” he said.

While there is no conformation from the Mavs, if Luka is suffering some kind of mild virus or infection, that might explain his low output in Game 1. Some have speculated that a virus has spread through the team. Reggie Bullock played “as sick as a dog” head coach Jason Kidd confessed during the last practice in the first round against Utah and so it’s possible that the player passed the virus on to the rest of his team mates.

This evening, Dallas return for Game 2. For now the situation with Doncic is relaxed, and if he was able to play on Thursday, he should be OK to start at the Chase Center today.
