Update:

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ hopes of qualifying directly for the NBA playoffs were dealt a blow on Wednesday by 119-115 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans, who were led to victory by Zion Williamson.

Williamson and Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards jointly led the scoring with 29 points, although the Pelicans forward got the better of his opponent when they found themselves directly up against one another in the fourth quarter. Something Edwards appeared to acknowledge after the game.

Anthony Edwards' huge praise for Zion Williamson

Speaking immediately after his team’s loss, the 23-year-old confessed that he had found it difficult to handle an on-form Williamson, who he showered with praise.

Zion is tough, he’s a tough cover. His touch around the rim and he takes off from so far that you think he ain’t gonna get to the rim and every time he’s finger rolling it at the rim, high off the glass. I’m not going to lie, he’s incredible, honestly.”

Despite the victory, the Pelicans have no hope of reaching the postseason as they are 19-51, which leaves them in second last place in the Western Conference. Their case hasn’t been helped by the fact Williamson missed 27 games due to injury before returning to action on January 8.

Since his regaining full fitness, the 24-year-old has been in excellent form despite his team’s struggles, averaging 24.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The last two of those numbers are well above his career average, while he is also posting career high figures in terms of steals and blocked shots.
