Jayson Tatum is waking up on cloud nine today. After finally bringing the long awaited 18th title to Boston on Monday night, he is set to be presented with the biggest contract in NBA history.

Tatum to top Brown’s contract

In his seventh year with the the franchise that drafted him out of Duke University, Jayson Tatum has already cemented his name in Celtics history, and it appears he is going to be in Boston for a very, very long time. The Celtics are preparing an offer that they will most likely present to him in the up coming days, which is going to make him a very, very rich man.

Just a year after the Celtics broke the bank and shattered the NBA record by offering Jaylen Brown a five year extension worth up to $303.7 million dollars, Boston is ready to top that for Tatum. Before Game 5, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was on ESPN’s NBA Countdown and broke down the details of the upcoming contract. The contract extension is expected to be a five year deal worth a record breaking $315 million.

There is a new rule in place that allows teams to start negotiating with their players to restructure contracts as soon as the NBA Finals comes to an end. He is heading into an offseason in which he has a player option to return to Boston or explore the market, but the Celtics are likely to tempt him into singing a contract before he can even think about talking to another team.

More titles to come?

Tatum has done just about everything you could do in seven years as a Celtic. He is a five time All-Star, three time NBA First Team selection and now an NBA Champion. He is one of the faces of the league, and already a living legend in Boston.

The only thing that’s left for Tatum to do is bring more titles to Boston, and perhaps start picking up the individual accolades along the way. Last night the Finals MVP was awarded to Jaylen Brown despite Tatum having better statistics across the board. He can also add an NBA MVP award to his resume, but those are about the only things that are still left to accomplish for this 26 year old who has the world at his fingertips.

The way the Celtics are set up, winning the MVP is going to be tough as he continues to share the spotlight with Jaylen Brown. There is a culture that has been instilled throughout this organization that the team comes before the individual and that’s what was the key for the Celtics bringing the title back to Boston.
