Buddy Hield set to trade to Warriors: contract details
Reports suggest that Buddy Hield will join the Golden State Warriors on a deal that guarantees him two years and $21 million.
Reports suggest that Philadelphia 76ers star Buddy Hield is set to join the Golden State Warriors in a deal that will guarantee him $21 million over the course of 2 years.
The report, from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, said that the Bahaman will receive $18 million in the first two years and a $3 million partial guarantee for 2026-27.
The deal will also include a player option for a non-guaranteed fourth year. According to the New York Times, Hield chose the Warriors “because of the opportunity to win” while The Athletic reported that “Hield chose the Warriors because of the opportunity to win over other interested suitors, including the Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers”.
As part of the deal, the Warriors are going to send the 76ers a 2031 second-round pick the franchise received from the Dallas Mavericks in the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade. The merry-go-round move is part of a complicated five-team deal that also includes the Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
A call last night with Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reportedly spoke on the phone to the Bahaman where he then slept on the decision before ultimately deciding that joining the 7-time NBA Champions.
As for Hield’s job on the side, it will be simple: fill the huge void left by Thompson after his move to the Mavericks, which was reported earlier this week. A free-agent guard, he played a league-high 84 regular-season games for the 76ers and Indiana Pacers, averaging 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 25.7 minutes per game.
Right now, as the deal is progressing in the States, Hield finds himself in Valencia, Spain, starring for the Bahamian national team (the photo at the top), where a spot at the Paris Olympics is on the line. Curiously, the team is coached by Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco.
