Cooper Flagg admits that “sometimes I mess up” at Mavs
The youth prospect has spoken about his move to the Mavs.

Cooper Flagg’s recent comments to the media will undoubtedly remind fans of the human nature of elite sports stars: despite the wealth, notoriety, and influence, they are all homo sapiens evolved from a common ancestor.
The young Dallas Mavericks prospect joined as the number 1 pick in the recent NBA Draft, making the move from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, to the Lone Star State, taking the leap into the world of top-tier professional basketball.
Under coach Jason Kidd, the Mavs are seemingly looking at playing in a defensive style during the upcoming campaign, with Flagg admitting that he is going through a period of adaptation regarding his role.

“Sometimes I mess up and say old terminology I used at Duke”
“It’s different terminology, you just gotta get accustomed to it. Sometimes I mess up and say old terminology I used at Duke. But if you say something, it’s better than saying nothing and just letting your teammate know where you are. Any communication is good.”
On the specifics of the style, Flagg highlighted how Kidd expects the players to use their physicality “to our advantage,” adding that “we have a lot of tall, lengthy, positionless players. Covering a lot of ground with our length will be an advantage for sure.”
While Flagg’s numbers are impressive, he admitted that the leap upwards was significant, and that it is taking time to adjust just how detailed and fast-paced things are at the top. “The communication and dedication to playing hard and doing it on both ends,” Flagg said when asked about the adaptation period. “Having five guys on the court communicating with each other and [buying] in to get stops on every possession.
“I’m just trying to take it one step at a time and enjoy the process every step of the way,” Flagg concluded. “I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’m really excited.”
