Curry surprises viral fan with his shoes

A Golden State Warriors superfan was given the best surprise after the Dubs’ Game 2 win over the Lakers - a pair of Stephen Curry’s own shoes.

What would an NBA team be without its fans? The ones who keep showing up through good times and bad - those are the real MVPs. And one Golden State Warriors fan’s passion paid off at the Warriors playoff Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

Who is the viral Warriors fan that caught Curry’s attention?

Christian Gamboa is a diehard Warriors fan, and his enthusiasm at the Warriors’ playoff Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings last week earned him some fame as his reactions went viral on social media.

Gamboa held up a towel with the 2017 NBA Finals Warriors slogan “strength in numbers” as he cheered passionately for the Warriors, who went on to win the and the series 4-3 and advance to round 2 of the playoffs. Gamboa was again in attendance at the Warriors’ round 2 Game 2 playoff match against the Lakers, which they also won in a blowout 127-100 victory to tie the series 1-1. His antics even caught the attention of Warriors’ star guard Steph Curry.

When the game was over, Curry looked for Gamboa so he could give him a surprise gift - a pair of his own game-worn shoes.

Gamboa told the media that he was speechless, almost literally as he lost his voice from all the yelling and cheering.

“Thanks to all my family, man, they’re doing all my little craziness,” said Gamboa. “I’m kind of tired, lost my voice and still kind of recuperating. But it’s been good, man. It’s a hell of an experience. This is like once in a lifetime. It’s nuts. I appreciate you guys and giving me the opportunity to go on there.”

The Warriors will attempt to take the series lead when they face the Lakers for Game 3 ay Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Saturday. Keep an eye out to see if Gamboa will make the trip there to cheer them on.
