They’ve found their man. Deandre Ayton will join the Los Angeles Lakers on a free agency contract.
After sniffing around center Brook Lopez, who agreed to a two-year deal with the LA Clippers on Monday, they landed on Ayton and have secured a deal.

In his rookie season with the Phoenix Suns, he played 71 games and averaged 16.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, shooting an impressive 58.5% from the field. Solid seasons saw him traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played 55 games in the 2023–24 season, putting up 16.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. During the 2024–25 season, his final year in Portland, Ayton averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.0 block over 40 games.
In total, across 398 regular-season games, Ayton has averaged 16.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 block per game, shooting 59.0% from the field and 75.5% from the free-throw line.
What is Deandre Ayton’s LA Lakers contract?
According to The Athletic, the deal is a two-year agreement worth $16.6 million, and has a player option for the second season.
Before the buyout agreement from the Trail Blazers, Deandre Ayton had signed a four-year, $133 million maximum contract with the Phoenix Suns in 2022 that was set to pay him $35.6 million for the 2025–26 season.
For the 2025–26 season, Ayton will earn roughly $8.1 million from the Lakers, while Portland will continue to pay the remainder of his buyout through a stretched cap hit of about $25.5 million.
