Deandre Ayton’s first words after joining the Los Angeles Lakers: ‘Winning is everything here.’

Deandre Ayton has joined the Los Angeles Lakers in hopes of boosting the team’s performance next season. He signed a two-year, $16.6 million contract that includes a player option for the 2026–27 NBA season.

Speaking to the media, the Lakers’ newest addition shared his first impressions of joining such a storied franchise:

‘I know the winning history of this organization’

“During that time, my team and I evaluated several franchises, and I felt the Lakers were the best fit. Being surrounded by the two best playmakers in the league, combined with Laker Nation and a fan base like I’ve never seen before… I just wanted to be a part of that,” Ayton said.

While the Lakers may still add another piece, their goal is clear: to return as strong postseason contenders. Last season, they finished third in the Western Conference with a 50–32 record but were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“I know the winning history of this organization. I know what the expectations are. I know that here, winning is everything,” Ayton added.
