There’s still a lot of time to wait until the NBA 2022-23 season begins, but there’s a lot of basketball action to be enjoyed in the meantime. The NBA Summer League is scheduled to begin in Las Vegas, and it will be a chance for up-and-coming young players to show off their wares.

All 30 NBA teams will take part in the 11-day, 75-game tournament, with rookies, sophomores, and G League players taking center stage. The league’s big stars are not likely to get any playing time so as to avoid any risk of injury before the NBA season begins. Also, the Summer League is the time for younger athletes to shine.

NBA Summer League: No giant paychecks

The players are getting a chance to showcase their talent, but they will not be getting extra-large salaries for their participation in the competition.

Those who have already signed agreements with their teams are paid a salary for their participation in the Summer League according to what their contracts and the collective bargaining agreement stipulate.

What all the players do get is an allowance amounting to $1,500 for the duration of the competition. Spread over 11 days, that’s around $136 per day.

That doesn’t seem like much, but the players are flown into Las Vegas, billeted at hotels, and provided with two meals a day. More importantly, they are getting much-needed exposure to be able to make an impression on NBA teams so as to earn a spot on the roster and land lucrative contracts.
