First look at the LeBron James ‘Barbie doll’

Of all the achievements on LeBron James’ incredible CV, the title ’Kenbassador’ is perhaps the most random.

But that’s actually what the NBA icon is after Barbie manufacturers Mattel announced on Wednesday that James would be the face of a new doll. He will be the first in a range of ’Kenbassadors‘, a new series honouring men “who inspire and contribute to a better world for all.”

The doll features a varsity jacket with his ‘LJ’ initials on the front, along with an Ohio patch, crown patch, and the number 23. Also featured on the clothing is the message ’Just a kid from Akron’ and a shirt that reads ’We Are Family‘.

“As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication,” James said in the announcement.

“Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. That’s why partnering with Barbie to release the LeBron James ‘Kenbassadors’ doll is such an honor. It’s an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show kids that they, too, can achieve greatness.”

The LeBron James doll, which is an inch taller than the regular Ken doll, will be on sale from Monday, April 14 with a release price of $75. The figure will be available at certain in-person Target stores, and online at Target, Amazon, Walmart and Mattel Creations.
