Update:

A league-record seven-team trade was officially concluded on Sunday, headlined by the news that 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant is moving to the Houston Rockets.

The first seven-team trade in league history has been a long time in the works, with Durant’s move from the Phoenix Suns to Houston actually agreed on June 22. However that trade could not be completed until Sunday, the date on which the 2025/26 NBA season officially began.

In total the mammoth trade included seven teams (Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Phoenix Suns), six players (Kevin Durant, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Clint Capela, David Roddy and Daeqwon Plowden) and 13 draft picks.

Here’s how those player trades break down...

  • Kevin Durant, Clint Capela to Houston Rockets
  • Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Daeqwon Plowden to Phoenix Suns
  • David Roddy to Atlanta Hawks

Durant, now 36, twice led the Golden State Warriors to an NBA championship and he will hope that he can bring some much-needed experience to a talented roster in Houston. The Rockets finished second in the Western Conference last season but were eliminated by the Warriors in the first round.

The Rockets front office will hope that Durant can bolster the options and continue his prodigious scoring alongside 2025 All-Star Alperen Sengun, 22-year-old Amen Thompson and guard Fred VanVleet. Last season Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games, signalling his continued value in the NBA.

“Being part of the Houston Rockets, I’m looking forward to it,” Durant told Kay Adams recently. “Crazy, crazy last couple weeks, but I’m glad it’s over with.”
