How many NBA Championships have the Boston Celtics won?
After losing to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals last year, the Celtics will try to go all the way and lift the title this time around.
The Celtics are one of the most known franchises in the NBA due to the great players that have played for Boston over the years and their bright history in terms of accomplishments.
Bill Russell, Dave Cowens, and Larry Bird are just some of the Celtics’ great players ever to have worn the Celtics jersey.
But the Celtics, founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, are also remembered for their rivalry and epic battles with their archrivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, especially in the 1980s.
Last season, they got to the NBA Finals after defeating the Miami Heat in a hard-fought Western Conference finals battle. They played the Golden State Warriors for the Championship, but they ended up losing to Steph Curry & co.
Celtics and Lakers tied for most Championships
The 2021-22 NBA Finals was the first time the Celtics played the last round of the competition since 2010 when they lost to the Lakers in seven games.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown led the team to the 22nd Finals and they were on the verge of making history with the team, not because they had the chance of winning another Championship, but because they would have become the franchise with the most NBA titles ever if they had beat the Warriors.
The Celtics and the Lakers are the most successful teams in NBA history, both with 17 titles won.
However, Boston have struggled in recent history. They last won the title in 2008 against the Lakers but before that feat, they hadn’t won the Championship since the Larry Bird era in the 80s.
The Celtics’ most brilliant era took place in the early stages of the NBA when the team was led by coach Red Auerbach, carrying the team to eight consecutive titles from 1959 to 1966.
