How many times has Dillon Brooks been suspended on his career? How much has he payed on fines?
Following his most recent disciplinary transgression, the focus is once again squarely on the behavioral record of the Memphis Grizzlies’ contentious player.
With the feud between himself and the Lakers star now at fever pitch, it’s only natural that many have started to wonder just how many times has Dillon Brooks been suspended and what kind of cash he’s paid out in fines. Truth be told, it’s more than you think.
Dillon Brooks made a ‘low blow’ on LeBron James
If you missed Saturday night’s game between the Grizzlies and the Lakers then you didn’t get the chance to see a rather heated moment between Memphis’ would be villain, Dillon Brooks, and the man many believe to be the best player ever, LeBron James. Indeed, the confrontation in question resulted in Brooks’ ejection for what was deemed a second flagrant foul after he appeared to hit James in the groin area as the Lakers star tried to dribble the ball behind his back.
Asked post-game if Brooks should be suspended for hitting him in his “crown jewels,” James was not committal. “Im not a part of that committee. If he’s in the lineup, out of the lineup, we’ve got to prepare no matter what.” To be clear, the league has since indicated that Brooks who was suspended twice last month for picking up his 16th technical foul of the season and then for his 18th in another game, will not be suspended for his actions. Yet, it’s worth noting that as far as disciplinary records go, the Grizzlies player has a less than stellar one. The question is how bad is it?
How many suspensions and fines has Dillon Brooks faced?
To put things in perspective, Dillon Brooks has paid out more in fines this season than the average person will make in a decade. What’s even more shocking is the fact that the Memphis Grizzlies guard-forward doesn’t seemed bothered by the bill he’s had to foot in the least. For the purpose of clarity, Brooks has paid out a total of $248,242 during the 2022-23 season. When asked about that figure he responded by saying, “It’s just paper.” Not exactly the words of a man who is remorseful or has any issue paying for what he’s done.
His most recent fine came back in March when he was fined $35,000 by the league for unsportsmanlike conduct after he was judged to have shoved a camera man to the ground during the Grizzlies 138-119 loss to the Miami Heat. He was then suspended shortly after that for picking up his 18th technical foul of the campaign following a moment in which he dunked on Dallas Mavericks’ Maxi Kleber and then proceeded to taunt the Mavs bench. Suffice to say, Brooks doesn’t have the best disciplinary record, in fact he holds the record in the league at the moment for technical fouls received, but it’s safe to assume that sits just fine with him.
