While the NBA All-Star Game might be an exhibition game, the players need to be paid in order to attract the top talent from around the league. And while the pay may seem healthy to most of the general public, the fact is that these players are risking a lot more than they can earn if injury should strike.

How much do players get for playing in the NBA All-Star Game?

So the NBA has made it worth their while by guaranteeing that every player will walk away with a minimum of $25,000 for participating in the game. As a further sweetener, in an effort to ensure that the All-Star Game is competitive, the league pays the players from the winning team a $75,000 bonus, bringing their salary for the game to a smooth $100k.

Throughout the competition, there are incentives offered for each of the events, with extra money being earned for the Slam Dunk, 3-point, and Skills events. But what about the MVP of the All-Star Game? Is there a bonus for that?

Prestige not prize money for All-Star Game MVP

Well, it appears not.

Let’s face it, the MVP will almost always come from the winning team. And although the pay bump between the winning and losing teams is a huge incentive for players to do their best in the game, there is no extra cash award for being a lone standout.

Perhaps the idea is that the kudos is reward enough. Or perhaps the idea is that if $75k doesn’t get you going, an extra $10k is unlikely to either. Or maybe it is simply a nod to the fact that, even in today’s celebrity culture, basketball is still a team sport.
