Draymond Green will be up for a contract extension with the Golden State Warriors on Aug. 3, and he reportedly wants the maximum deal, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II.

He still has two years left on his current contract, which will provide him with $53.3 million- $25.8 million in the coming season, and $27.5 million for 2023-24 if he takes his player option.

The 32-year-old can opt out of the last year of his existing deal, and will be eligible to sign an extension next week, with the maximum deal lasting four years with a value of $138.4 million. Such a contract would mean Green would be committed to the warriors for $164.2 million over the next five years.

Per The Athletic, Green believes he deserves the contract, and he would prefer to stay with Golden State, but he could also explore other options if he does not receive the agreement that he wants.

Even Green’s mother took to social media to give her two cents on the issue of her son’s contract.

Golden State: No extension offer on the table

However, the Warriors reportedly have no plans to offer the extension that he desires at the moment, as such a contract would have heavy repercussions on the franchise’s cap sheet. They are said to prefer to discuss Green’s contract extension next summer, when there is only one year remaining on his deal.

Also, giving him the maximum extension would mean that the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year would be 37 years old by the time the contract runs out.
