With 136 days to go until Germany stages the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, the event’s 16 teams are set to learn the identity of their pool-stage rivals, as Berlin hosts the tournament draw.

What time is the Women’s Basketball World Cup draw?

Held at Kraftwerk Berlin, the draw takes place today, Tuesday April 21, at 6:00 p.m. local time. In the U.S., that’s 12 noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

How will the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup draw work?

Teams will be drawn into four groups of four, each comprising one team per seeding pot. The FIBA world rankings were used to decide the makeup of the four pots.

The draw will be subject to the following conditions and restrictions:

  • Hosts Germany automatically placed in Group A
  • No more than two European nations per group
  • No more than one African team per group
  • No more than one team from the Americas per group
  • No more than one Asian/Oceanian team per group

When is the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup?

The 20th edition of the Women’s Basketball World Cup tips off on September 4, before reaching its conclusion with the gold-medal match on September 13.

The top three teams in each group will qualify for the knockout phase, with the pool winners advancing automatically to the quarterfinals. The second and third-placed teams in each group will have to negotiate a playoff round before advancing to the last eight.

Who is the Women’s Basketball World Cup holder?

The U.S., the world’s top-ranked nation, heads into the 2026 tournament as the defending champion and clear favorite. Indeed, Team USA has won the last four editions of the Women’s Basketball World Cup, and has only failed to lift the trophy twice in the last four decades.
