Update:

Insiders have told sports outlet Yahoo Sports what LeBron James and Luka Doncic think of playing alongside each other next season in the purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speculation regarding LeBron James’ future at the Los Angeles Lakers has dominated the summer news reel, with the 40-year-old widely linked with a move away after 7 years in California.

However, the 4-time NBA champion is, in the end, staying put and chasing his fifth championship alongside the Slovenian superstar acquired from the Mavericks.

“It was an important message... he was committed to us”

Doncic has made waves ever since his move to the Lakers, with his departure from Dallas almost shifting the tectonic plates beneath his feet. Hype was at astronomical levels ahead of his debut, and photos of his fit figure for the new season have fans once again salivating over the prospect of the player on the court. And his future has not been without speculation, either, with a $165 million contract extension quickly sealed on both sides of the divide.

“It was an important message to send,” a source close to the team told ESPN (according to Yahoo) when asked about the nature of the deal. “He was never going anywhere and he wanted it known to everyone around the league that he was committed to us.”

The relationship between LeBron and Doncic has been a hot topic of conversation, with fans curious to see how the two get on when the chips are down.

Yahoo Sports add that “sources close to the team reiterated recently that he and Doncic have maintained communication dating back to the onset of the summer with the focus being how they can make each other better.”
