Is Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry going to run for president of the United States when his NBA career ends?

While it’s not unheard of for sporting icons to enter into the world of politics, it’s certainly not something that happens frequently. To that end, one can imagine that heads most definitely turned when the greatest shooter in NBA history hinted at the idea that he might enter the fray.

Steph Curry for president?

So, we recently witnessed the New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers and politician Robert F. Kennedy Jr. briefly flirt with the idea of running side by side in the upcoming general elections. Of course, in just three days, that notion was squashed when Kennedy himself announced that his running mate would be California-based attorney and political donor, Nicole Shanahan. Now, it seems we’ve got another sporting superstar who is eyeing a position in politics and that’s Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.

Speaking during a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Curry, who was there to promote his second children’s book “I Am Extraordinary”, was asked if he’d ever consider a career in politics after his career in the NBA comes to end, more specifically, would he run for president? “Maybe, I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can,” Curry said. “So, if that’s the way to do it, then – I’m not going to say the presidency but if politics is a way that you can create meaningful change or if there’s another way outside of politics.”

It’s worth noting that at present, Curry is extremely involved in the Oakland community, something that’s fascinating given that the Warriors moved across the Bay Area to San Francisco. From his work with his wife, Ayesha Curry’s charitable organization ‘Eat. Learn. Play.’, which supports kids in the Oakland public school district, to being a national spokesperson - along with his wife - for No Kid Hungry, a charity geared toward ensuring Oakland kids have access to school meals and can eat three meals every day, Curry has put his money where his mouth is. Additionally, the 36-year-old has also had a great deal to say about racial injustice and violence against Black people in America, even walking in several protests during the climax of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. Truthfully, it comes as no surprise that Curry has an eye on a possible future in politics. While he may not end up running for president, don’t be surprised if you see him holding an office in his community in the future.
