Ja Morant is being sued for allegedly punching a 17-year-old minor during a basketball game, according to reports.

The lawsuit was filed in Tennessee back in September, around two months after the incident occurred at Morant’s residence in Eads, Tennessee on July 26, 2022.

Did Ja Morant beat up a teenager?

The teenager, who filed the lawsuit on Sept. 9, said the two were playing in a pickup basketball game at Morant’s residence when they got into an argument.

As the argument intensified, the 17-year-old allegedly hit Morant in the face with a basketball. According to the teenager, Morant then approached him closely asking another individual close by “Should I do it to him?” before he struck him “with a closed fist knocking him on the ground.” According to the court documents, the teenager said the Grizzlies’ star “continued sticking him while on the ground.”

According to what Morant told the police, however, he only hit the teenager as an act of self-defense. The 23-year-old also said his “brother” was involved in the altercation.

Both Morant and the teenager said spectators split up the fight shortly after it began. Additionally, Morant told police that the teenager “made verbal threats stating he’d ‘light his house up” as he was being escorted off the property.

Police investigated the allegations for multiple weeks before submitting the case to the district attorney’s office on Oct. 4. Almost a month later, the district attorney declined prosecution on the Memphis star.
