Jamal Murray, one of the NBA’s rising stars, was the seventh pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.

In his first year in Denver, he earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team and showed great promise. Every season since then, he’s shown improvement and become a vital part of the Nuggets’ offense, especially together with Nikola Jokić.

In the 2020 NBA Playoffs, Murray’s breakout performance led his team to an iconic comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the Utah Jazz, scoring 50 points twice and averaging 31.6 points per game in the series. The point guard helped Denver rise in the Western Conference till they reached their first conference finals since 2009, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.

Murray’s contract with the Sixers

The Nuggets believed Murray was worthy of a 25% rookie max extension and signed him a 5-year, $158,253,000 contract. His average annual average salary is $31,650,600.

In 2023-24, Murray will earn a base salary of $33,833,400 while carrying a cap hit of $33,833,400 and a dead cap value of $33,833,400.

This is what the details of his contract look like:

  • Current Salary: $33,833,400
  • Salary Per Month: $2,819,450
  • Salary Per Week: $650,646.15
  • Salary Per Game: $412,846.34 (assuming 82 games)
  • Salary Per Quarter: $103,211.59 (assuming 12 minutes per quarter)
  • Salary Per Minute: $8,600.97 (assuming 12 minutes per quarter)

Due to the contract being a designated rookie extension, Murray was eligible to sign a bigger contract than most players with his level of experience.

The Nuggets are also allowed to go over the salary cap to keep their point guard since his contract uses the Bird exception.

No matter what happens with Murray on or off the court, he will get his money since his contract is fully guaranteed.
