Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell a doubt for Game 6 vs Mavericks
With the Mavericks leading the series 3-2, the Jazz have never needed their star like they need him right now.
Though initial reports suggest that the star guard should be good to go by the time Game 6 rolls around, rest assured his team will be sweating until then.
Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell has bruised quads
According to an announcement on Tuesday afternoon from the Utah Jazz, their All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is currently in a race to be fit with bruising in both of his quads. Subsequently, Mitchell will be undergoing treatment right up until the Jazz take on the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 on Thursday. Mitchell of course had to be taken out of Game 5 on Monday night with what appeared to be a hamstring injury at the time. It is understood, however, that MRI which he received following the game actually came back negative, which will surely remove some degree of the anxiety surrounding his status.
The Jazz and Donovan Mitchell remain positive he will play
Though the scenario is not ideal, the Jazz are reportedly optimistic that Mitchell will be fit and ready to go come game time on Thursday night. Interestingly, the player himself was confident that it would in fact be the case when he spoke following Monday night’s loss to the Mavs, stating that with two days of rest he would be good to go. As for how the injury itself occurred, Mitchell landed awkwardly after trying to drive to the rim deep in the 4th quarter with 4:41 minutes on the clock. The Jazz’s star could be seen grabbing his leg almost immediately after. Mitchell then limped to the locker room and didn’t return for what turned out to be a blow out 102-77 loss.
Can the Utah Jazz cope without Donovan Mitchell
Should Mitchell be ruled out of Game 6, it goes without saying that the Jazz’s chances of fending off elimination and tying the series at 3-3 will be significantly reduced. While it is true that he has not had the best series up to this point, he is without doubt the main attacking threat that Utah has, which is to say when he produces so do the Jazz. If Utah hopes to force a Game 7, they won’t just need Mitchell on the court, they will need him on the court an 100% healthy. For the moment all him and the Jazz can do is hope for the best as they prepare for their do or die game.
