Update:

Jimmy Butler isn’t afraid to say it: if the Golden State Warriors are going to win another NBA title, it’s because of one thing or, more specifically, one man.

Butler, who joined the Warriors just before the February trade deadline, hasn’t wasted any time getting in step with the team’s identity. After a gritty 95-85 win over the Houston Rockets, he spoke to TNT’s Allie LaForce and made his role – and Curry’s – very clear.

“Like I always say, Batman comes out of nowhere,” Butler said, referencing Curry’s takeover of Game 1. “You never see him coming. Then he just falls from the sky, from a building, behind a door and does some incredible things. He’s going to be the reason that we do win it all. We all know that. But we got to protect him at all costs."

How Butler is reshaping the Warriors, quietly

Golden State fans may still be adjusting to the idea of Butler in a Warriors jersey. He’s only been around a few months, arriving on February 6, but his impact has been more about mentality than numbers so far.

His defensive tenacity and playoff experience offer the kind of support Curry hasn’t always had in recent years. But Butler knows what most Warriors watchers have long accepted.

The six-time All-Star has embraced the Batman-and-Robin dynamic in recent games, frequently invoking the metaphor in interviews. It’s not a typical sidekick role for a player who’s usually the main act, but it speaks volumes about how he sees his place in this system.

Curry’s Game 1 heroics show why Butler believes

In Sunday’s win over Houston, Curry dropped 31 points and reminded everyone why he remains the most unpredictable threat in basketball. He didn’t just light up the box score – he shifted the game’s energy.

That kind of takeover performance is exactly what Butler’s talking about. When he said “You never see him coming,” it wasn’t just admiration, it’s part of the strategy. Curry isn’t a piece of the puzzle. He is the puzzle.

Can Butler and Curry really take the Warriors all the way?

There are still plenty of questions about Golden State’s depth, age, and durability. But if Butler’s buying into the Steph-or-bust blueprint, it’s hard to argue with the logic.

You don’t trade for Butler to lead the team. You trade for him to keep the spotlight on Curry. To do the dirty work, close out games, and guard the opponent’s best player so Steph doesn’t have to.

That might not sound glamorous – but it’s exactly what the Warriors need.
