Lakers legend dedicates a few words to Luka Doncic

When it rains, it pours. The entire Laker Nation has come together to embrace the new era of Luka Doncic in Los Angeles for years to come. It all began with his unexpected arrival at Crypto.com Arena on February 1, when the Dallas Mavericks stunned the league by trading the Slovenian superstar to the Purple and Gold. Since then, it’s been nothing short of a honeymoon period for both the fans and the front office, led by Rob Pelinka and JJ Redick.

Doncic has spent the summer working hard on his conditioning and physical shape ahead of his first full season as a Los Angeles Laker, with the clear goal of winning championships in the near future. He showed his commitment to the franchise by signing a three-year contract extension on August 2 – and the praise hasn’t stopped since, particularly from Lakers legends.

Luka Doncic continues to receive praise

The first to congratulate him was Magic Johnson, who took to social media to recognize Doncic’s offseason efforts and praised his dedication to chasing a title. Another Lakers icon, Pau Gasol, also chimed in with his support. The Spaniard shared the following message on X:

“Congratulations on your extension, happy for you and proud of the efforts your foundation is making to break down the barriers that too often stand in the way of young athletes chasing their dreams,” wrote the two-time NBA champion with the Lakers.

It’s worth remembering that Doncic announced he would donate $5 million of the $165 million from his new contract extension to a nonprofit foundation aimed at supporting the futures of 77 young athletes around the world in their pursuit of their dreams.

The initiative will be carried out through his own foundation – a gesture Pau Gasol applauded, making it clear that Doncic’s desire to help others goes far beyond what he does on the court.
