Wembanyama hit back to back threes late in the fourth quarter and pulled the Spurs within two points. He had a chance to tie the game up with 8 seconds on the clock but missed a contested three and the Spurs would go on to lost their 18th game in a row. 

Wemby and the Spurs looked like they were on the verge of getting blown out, but the Frenchman's tip slam spurred San Antonio to a big fourth quarter comeback. Keldon Johnson had a huge second half, scoring most of his 28 in the final two quarters and Wemby hit a could of late three's to pull LA within a basket. 

The Lakers led by double digits most of the night and took a 15 point lead into the final quarter. Even though Reaves' 3/4 court buzzer beater didn't count but LA was in complete control of the game going into the final 12 minutes. They would stretch the lead to 20, but San Antonio would bring the Lakers within a possession. 

LA is going to have to get used to playing without LeBron James. He's 38 years old, and will need some time off. He has a minutes limit and will get the occasional night off. All five starters were in double digits tonight and Reaves had 15 off the bench. 

AD twisted his ankle on the first play of the game, but shook it off and gave Victor Wembanyama a lesson in the first half. He had 24 points in the first half, and gave the Frenchman fits down low all night. 

Rui Hachimura started off the night with the first seven Laker points. With no LeBron it was going to be on the shoulders of LA's role players to make up for his absence. Hachimura ended the game with 13 points, 7 rebounds and an assist. 

With LeBron sitting out against the Spurs, it was going to be up to Anthony Davis to steer the ship and he got off to a red hot start in San Antonio. 

IT'S ALL OVER!!!

The LeBron-less Lakers hold off a late comeback bid to hand the Spurs their 18th straight loss. 

Prince misses the front end of the FTs but makes the seconds and the Spurs try a long ball but it was intercepted by Davis and the Lakers hold on to win. 

Branham hits the three ball with 1.1 on the clock! SA foul right away and Prince to the line. 

AD gets sent to the line and he hits both FTs which should now officially close out the Spurs. 

Wemby got the ball and pulled up for the tying three, but missed the shot and was called for an offensive foul for stretching his feet out on the landing. 

SA challenge the call with 8.1 to go.

SA foul with 17.3 and Davis goes to the line where he hits both FTs.

WE ARE BACK IN PLAY FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION FROM SAN ANTONIO. 

Wemby had a dunk over AD down low and then on the next trip down court finished the break with an alley oops slam. 

He's got 12 points on 5/12 shooting. 

Wemby has been doing it on both ends, especially when AD isn't anywhere in sight. Reaves tried his luck, but the Frenchman was there to send that lay up back. 

Wemby started the game with this pull up three ball, but didn't get much going from down low. The Spurs as a group have been struggling from the paint, going 19/50 from inside the arc. 

AD had been matched up with Wemby, and he is making light work of the rookie. He has 24 points on 10/15 shooting and the Lakers go into the locker room with a 13 point lead. 

Hachimura got the start with LeBron on the bench and had the first seven points of the Lakers night, and found Wood with the slam down the lane. He's got 11, 5 and this assist. 

LeBron James is sitting this one out tonight, which means that the Lakers are going to lean on Anthony Davis to carry them to victory. He got warm early and didn't slow down for the rest of the half. 

AD with a power dribble and he finishes with the finger roll at the rim. 

That will take us to the halftime break here from San Antonio. It's been all LA, with no LeBron. AD is carrying the Lakers with 24 first half points.

AD is back in the game after an early timeout which is great news for LA. He came down awkwardly on the ankle. Let's see if it holds up. 

AD missed his first shot of the night and was slow to get up which left Sochan wide open on the other end for the slam and the first points of the game. AD stays down and will get some medical attention. Remember LeBron is out of this game so that could make things very interesting going forward.

The Spurs are looking to end their 17 game losing streak against AD and the In Season Tournament champion Lakers. 

LeBron is out tonight, so that means Wemby will be in the spotlight even more tonight. He is joined by Sochan, Brunham, Vassell and Johnson to start tonight as they they try to avoid their 18th straight loss. 

Lakers starting five

All this talk about LeBron and Wemby, but it turns out LeBron will not be in the starting five tonight, which means he won't play against the No. 1 overall pick from last spring. Instead it's Rui Hachimura plugging into the five with AD, D'Lo, Reddish and Prince. 

LeBron still soaring

LeBron started his NBA career three months before Victor Wembanyama was born. Like the frenchman, he was 19 years old when he took he court for the first time and in his rookie season averaged 20.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game. Here we are 19 years later, and LeBron, at the age of 38 is averaging 25.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.7 assists, which would be numbers that Wembanyama would likely sign on for in any point of his career. The youngster has a long way before he even enters the conversation with LeBron and the other greats of the game, but for the first time in his young career will go up against the game’s leading scorer of all time. 

The kid vs the King

The Spurs might have just three wins well past the quarter mark of the season and the Spurs might have set a record for most consecutive losses in franchise history, but things are still looking up in San Antonio. One man is responsible for the blind hope that surrounds San Antonio despite their troubles, and that man is 7’5” phenom Victor Wembanyama. In the first 21 games of his season, he has averaged 18.8 points and 10.6 rebounds and seems to be adjusting quite well to life in the NBA. This will be the first and could one of the last times he gets to meet one of his idols and super star predecessors on the floor, and both will be looking to defy what should be possible at each others impressive ages. 

NBA Standings 

Taking a look at the Western Conference Standings we see the Spurs coming in at dead last with just three wins in their first 22 games. They have lost 17 straight and even at the early stage of the season, playoffs might be a stretch for Gregg Popovich’s guys. On the other hand, the Lakers have been slowly climbing up the standings and sit in 6th place coming into tonight. LA will do what ever they can to avoid a low seed in the postseason which only complicates things if forced to play the Play-In game. They are four games back of the conference leading Timberwolves, but just a half game ahead of the Clippers who are in the first Play-In spot. It’s early, but never to early to start looking at the standings. 

Lakers last game

It was the Lakers first game as inaugural champions of the NBA In Season Tournament. There was no doubt a little partying in Vegas after LA hoisted the trophy for the first time in history, but they came out swinging against the Mavs in Dallas last night. Luka Doncic led the Mavs with 33 points as Dallas built up a 15 point lead right after half, but Anthony Davis lead his team back to even the game midway through the final quarter. It was Doncic who led the way, but Dante Exum hit a three with under a minute left to stretch the lead to six and hold off a 37 point double double from Anthony Davis. 

Spurs last game

It wasn’t just another loss for the Spurs in their last game, which was played in Houston against the Spurs. They set a franchise record for most consecutive losses (17) as the Rockets held them to just 82 points and 12.2% from three point range. Houston took the lead early in the second quarter and would hand on to it for the rest of the night as Tari Eason led the victors with 18 points. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 15 points but it wasn’t enough for the Spurs to overcome what stayed a single digit deficit all game.

Hello everyone and welcome to San Antonio where the Spurs may have been the talk of the town coming into the year after drafting their wonder kid Victor Wembanyama, but not much has gone right for them over the first quarter of the season. They have won just three games and are currently on a 17 game losing streak, looking to snap it tonight against LeBron James and the Lakers who are coming off a loss to the Mavericks after winning the very first NBA In Season Tournament. LA lost five of their first eight games, but look to have straightened the ship over the last month, winning 11 of their last 16.
