LeBron James makes stark admission on his future as Lakers consider his status
The Los Angeles Lakers legend has opened up on his recent injury amid an interesting decision from his team.
LeBron James described himself as “rusty” after returning from a 7-game absence due to a groin injury sustained against the Chicago Bulls. Ahead of the game against the Magic, the Lakers are still considering whether or not it is worth risking putting the 40-year-old into the side.
The Ohio native looked off the pace during the game as the Lakers flopped to a sorry 115-146 defeat that puts them on a 4-6 record over the last 10 games.

James is officially listed as ‘probable’ on the NBA injury list, which every team must submit to the organising body before each game.
‘I won’t look too far in the future'
As well as James, Rui Hachimura (knee) and Maxi Kleber (foot) are listed as ‘questionable’ and ‘out’, respectively. The former is the Lakers’ fourth-leading scorer with 13.3 points per game, and admitted he was “70-80% ready” ahead of the game.
“I just take it day by day,” James said of his injury. “I can’t work out what’s going to happen in the future, but obviously I got some work on it today. Hopefully a little more on the plane. It’s a long flight to Orlando, and then I’ll get ready for Monday. I hope it’s behind, but I won’t look too far in the future.”
James was on an average of 25.0 points, 8.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds across the 2024-25 season before going down with the aforementioned physical issue.
