The Lakers come good in Game 1
It was a mixed bag in Game 1. The Warriors being a team that works the screen like no other, will definitely come away feeling frustrated given that they did not shoot very well tonight. The Lakers on the other hand, stuck to their assignments with a dogged intensity. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were both hounded and harried.
Mention should also be made of the Lakers' supporting cast. From D'Angelo Russell to Dennis Schroder, there was definitely a level of production from the Lakers' bench that was absolutely critical to the win.
Ultimately, this will be a bitter pill for the Warriors to swallow as it wasn't a case of their game plan not working, it just wasn't executed as cleanly as it normally is. When game 2 rolls around it will be imperative that they sink their open looks, given how difficult it was for them inside the paint.
That being said, what a night Kevon Looney had with more than 20 rebounds. Indeed, where the Lakers are concerned they will need to address that in Game 2 if they don't want to run the risk of paying the price. At any rate, there's still quite a way to go in this series and we can already see that it's shaping up to be everything we hoped it would be.

With Schroder having made both, it's now a 4 point game and with that it looks like the Lakers are going to hold on to take a 1-0 lead in this Eastern Conference semi final series.
An immediate foul on Schroder and he will go to the line. It looks like this one is done and dusted.
Lakers call a time out with 4 seconds on the clock. It looks like they may just hold on to this all-important win on the road.
We're in the closing moments now and the Lakers have a three point lead. James goes for three and misse. It's Curry to Poole but he misses as well. Could that be all she wrote?
LeBron is at the line with the Lakers leading 114-112 and he misses his first free throw. He makes the 2nd and it's a three-point game.
Huge three from Steph Curry. It's a tied game.
James called for traveling. Who would have thought.Warriors ball.
Huge play for the Warriors. Draymond breaks and finds and open Jordan Poole who buries it. That's a 11-0 run for the Warriors.
After 3 straight offensive rebounds from Wiggins, the Warriors finally give it up and Russell is fouled in transition. It's still a 6 point game.
A great piece of play from Klay Thompson who finds Curry on the break for an easy 2. The lead has been cut to 6. Can the Warriors pull this off?
Lakers call a timeout with the lead now cut to 8.
Great transition from the Warriors as Curry finds Thompson in the corner for a key three.
Curry with the slick handle and gets an open look and the foul. He's got an +1 opportunity. It's 101-112 after Curry nails it from the line.
We're back and it's Schroder with a smooth move. The lead is 12 points in LA's favor now and that's their biggest of the night. James makes it 14.
Warriors with the timeout. They're at risk of letting this one slip away.
Poole is called for a foul on Schroder and he's not sure why. We've got a timeout and the Lakers maintain their 10-point lead.
So too does Vanderbilt
Steph Curry has something to say about that.
We're back! Warriors ball and it's Looney who tries his luck but a huge block from Vanderbilt puts an end to it. Anthony Davis scores off the break and it's back to a 10-point LA lead.
There's still time left in this one, but not a whole lot. The Warriors are going to need to make some moves right here and now if they don't want to take a loss at home in the series opener.
The game is starting to open up but the Lakers are maintaining the lead and LeBron James increases it with a smooth layup. That's 103-95.
A huge three from Curry
Vanderbilt goes to the line for the Lakers but misses his first. His second is good and we'lve got a 7-point game with the score at 99-92.
Reeves with a slick lobbed pass up top to LeBron James who finishes with a flush.
It's the fourth and final quarter and we've got an early bucket from Poole. It's a six-point game and Looney gets his 21st rebound of the night. That's incredible. It's now a 4 point game.
Cleve pass from Klay Thomopson off the inbound and Looney gets the open basket. We're heading to the fourth quarter and the Lakers have an 8-point lead.
Warriors Ball and Curry is back in the game as is LeBron James. Warriors ball with seconds remaining. Can they score before the quarter ends?
Draymond Green has been pulled from the action by coach Kerr after picking up a technical for arguing with the referee. It's a 10-point lead to LA and we're in the last minute.
D'Angelo Russell with the smooth finger roll and we're heading to the last minute of the 1st quarter. The Lakers lead by 7.
Lakers dispossess the Warriors and that play could be key after some very decent defense.
Klay Thompson has something to say about it with his 5th three-pointer of the night. It's worth noting that it was Brown who was culpable of letting Thompson get free.
We're off and running again and it's a six point game. A few early misses but it's Brown who drains the three for the Lakers and we're at a 9 point difference.
Big play from Klay Thompson with the behind the back pass to Payton who obliges with a huge dunk on LeBron James. Fittingly LA calls a timeout.
The Warriors are trying to get in the paint more, but the size difference between the teams is proving to be problematic. Meanwhile, the lead has been cut to 8.
LeBron James gets in on the act with his first three of the night. The Lakers have their biggest lead of the night with the score now 86-76.
Austin Reeves with his second three of the 3rd quarter.
After some solid play from Looney, he's unable to keep his balance and steps out of bounds. Lakers ball. the lead is 80-76 in LA's favor.
Here we go again. and just like that Steph Curry has got himself a three from way down town.
Warriors with the time out and probably rightly so. Not only has LA got a 5-point lead, but the Dubs have watched a series of missed shots.
It was a bit of a patchy sequence of play from both sides, but the Lakers end up with Reeves draining the three to give them a 5-point lead.
Russell again and the foul! He's got 15 on the night, but he does miss from the line.
Big play from Andrew Wiggins who profits from a clever screen, but Russell gets another craft bucket. We're tied at 71.
Klay Thompson ties the game at 69 a piece from the line.
D'angelo Russell is having a quietly solid game as he displaces Curry for a sweet jumper. That's 11 on the night for him.
We're off and running once again and the Lakers have the lead. Warriors are back in front, however, and we appear to be trading blows here early in the 3rd quarter.
The way the half ended
Who better to have the final possession of the half than the King himself.
James makes the bucket from deep and the Lakers take a one-point lead to the locker room.
Wiggins makes his second and the Warriors have a 1-point lead but the Lakers will have the last opportunity to shoot in this half.
Warriors with only their 2nd and 3rd free throws of the night after a foul on Wiggins. It's a tied game.
Lakers on a decent run with Schroder making a tough layup but Jordan Poole is fouled while making a three on the resulting break and it goes. That'll be a possible 4 point play.
Another foul and another trip to the line. Davis makes both and LA has a 59-56 lead as we approach the last minute of the half.
It's a one point game and Schroder is fouled once again. That means it's about to be 15 free throws for LA, while the Warriors haven't taken a single one.
We're back at it with Schroder at the line. Warriors lead 56-53
Anthony Davis has been immense
If there's one player who has stood out in this first half despite the misses from both sides, it's got to be the Lakers' big man. With 21 points on 90% shooting and 8 rebounds, Davis has been a force to be reckoned with.
We've got a timeout and the Warriors have a two-point lead. Again we've seen some wasteful shooting from both teams, but the Warriors are starting to heat up from beyond the arc and that's exactly the kind of thing that the Lakers can't afford to allow.
Klay Thompson with his fourth 3-pointer of the game - he's on 16 - and it's followed by Jordan Poole with his third three. This is a problem for the Lakers.
Anthony Davis is back at the line with the game tied at 50-50 and it's worth noting that's 11-0 in terms of free-throw discrepency between the teams.

It's been a back and forth here over the last minute, but neither team has managed to get the bucket. That' being said, Anthony Davis does. it's 48-44 Lakers
Klay Thompson with his third three for the night. Warriors up 44-42 and the Lakers will need to watch that.
We're back at it and the Warriors now have a 1 point lead following another three from Green. Yet, Anthony Davis will go to the line after being fouled.
Lakers call a timeout with 7:50 remaining in the first half of this game. It's been tight so far, but neither team has seen their best night of shooting.

LeBron James with a rare cameo and an open shot, but misses badly. Fortunately for him and LA, Andrew Wiggins does the same from beyond the arc. James scores in transition and its 38-35 Warriors.
Austin Reeves drains a three to give LA the lead at 36-35.
Draymond Green is incensed after being called for a foul under the basket.
The Lakers with a 1-point lead at 34-33 and a foul has been called on Curry - his second - Lakers ball.
Off we go again. We're in the 2nd quarter now, Lakers ball, the lead is 31-29 to Warriors and it's Steph Curry with the steal. Unfortunately, Curry can't get his break to go and to make matters worse, he's just seen his pocket picked by Schroder. LA with their first lead: 33-31.
Warriors ball with 10 seconds. They will have the last shot - a miss - of the quarter. And that's a wrap for the first quarter!
And that's another three for Curry. The Lakers will be happy to see the quarter end with Curry starting to turn up the heat.
That's Steph Curry's first for the night. It's getting warm in here. Warriors with the 28-25 lead as we enter the last minute.
After a decent screen is set by Green, it's Poole with a big miss from distance. Again, these guys aren't shooting well tonight. On the resulting break, James is fouled and will go to the line. He makes both and we've got a tied game at 23-23.;
Rui Hachimura is at the line after a testy foul on the baseline. He makes both and with that the lead is now just 2 with the score at 21-19.
We're back in action. Warriors with the ball but they fail to score and so too do the Lakers. It's got to be said, neither team is shooting well tonight as evidenced by Jordan Poole's terrible miss from distance.
We've got a timeout with the Warriors leading 21-17
That's Looney with 2 offensive boards to put back his own miss. He's proving to be a real problem on the boards for the Lakers.
After going 1 for 8, the Lakers have now made their last 6, but the Warriors respond and the lead is now 19-15 in their favor.
Jordan Poole has been called for a foul while Draymond Green steps out for a moment. A breather needed it seems.
Anthony Davis with another key bucket from close range. That's now 17-13 to the Warriors, as the Lakers claw their way back into the contest. You can see where the Warriors struggle on defense due to a lack of size when compared with LA.
Andrew Wiggins with another decent look from distance and that's followed up by Klay Thompson with his second 3 of the game - he's on 8 - the Warriors are now 17-9 up after Anthony Davis hushes the home crowd with a decent jumper.
The Lakers will need to address their current wastefulness with the ball during this break. It's still early in this game, but they aren't shooting well, while the Warriors are beginning to.
The Lakers continue to try from down town but have found no success. Meanwhile that's Klay Thompson from beyond the arc to give the Warriors a 10-2 lead with a timeout called by LA's head coach Darvin Hamm.
LeBRon with his second three attempt of the game and again it's a miss. The Warriors will be content to let him shoot from distance if he continues this way.
Another strange turnover from the Lakers. They've been a tad sloppy with the ball in translation so far. They'll need to watch that.
LeBron with a long two to give the Lakers their first points of the game. It's 5-2 here in the early moments of the first quarter.
And that's the opening tip. Warriors with the ball and Curry brings it up court but believe it or not the ball is stolen. The Lakers have a break, fail to score and once again Curry brings it up court. A dish to Andrew Wiggins, who opens the scoring with a 3!

We've seen the players warm up, we've heard the lovely Jmaye since the national anthem and we're now hearing the starting lineups being called. It's that time!

Steph Curry is coming off a record breaking night with 50 points, as he spearheaded his team's decimation of the Kings. In the other series, it was LeBron James who had the last laugh against the Grizzlies and their contentious guard, Dillon Brooks.Indeed, Brooks has since been told by his team that he can't return.

Indeed, it would be safe to say that this match up is as big as it gets in this postseason and the kind that many might prefer to see in the finals. On one side, we've got the defending champion, Golden State Warriors, who it must be said are starting to find their rhythm. Two-time MVP Steph Curry needs no introduction, nor do his accomplices like Klay Thompson or Draymond Green.
On the other side, we've got the Lakers who came stumbling into these playoffs but have just come from soundly beating the contentious Grizzlies who were favored to advance. Led by LeBron James who has literally been having a record breaking season, LA are on the up and the Warriors would do well to be aware of that.
