Update:

Before February this year, few NBA fans would have imagined seeing generational talents LeBron James and Luka Doncic line up alongside one another. Of course, the Dallas Mavericks had other ideas, trading the Slovenian superstar to the Los Angeles Lakers due to GM Nico Harrison’s belief that “defense wins championships”.

Doncic and James’ on-court partnership has earned praise, by and large, with the pair helping the Lakers win the Pacific Division and climb up to third in the Western Conference after a relatively slow start. However, the Californians completely flopped in the postseason, losing 4-1 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the very first round.

Luka Doncic’s high praise for LeBron James

Rumors have linked James with a trade away from the Lakers, with reports suggesting they have “moved on” from the 40-year-old following Doncic’s arrival. However, the former Mavs guard appears to be desperate for LeBron to stay put, judging by comments made by Lara Beth Seager, Doncic’s manager.

“Championships are won when you work together. We all share that same goal,” Seager told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. ”Luka loves playing with LeBron and has learned so much from him. He has nothing but the utmost respect for LeBron and considers it an honor to be his teammate.”

Huge hint dropped on Doncic’s Lakers future

Although James’ future appears to be somewhat up in the air, Doncic has no immediate plans to move on from the Lakers, with whom he is under contract for just one more season. The 26-year-old has a player option for the 2026-27 season, and could become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.

Los Angeles is reported to be working on an extension and Seager’s comments suggest her client will be taking them up on it.

“The Lakers leadership team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of Luka since we arrived in LA. We’ve spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other over the last few months, and we’ve formed a strong working relationship.”
