Mavericks 109 vs 129 Suns summary: stats and highlights | NBA Playoffs
The Phoenix Suns used a huge fourth quarter take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Semifinals on Wednesday night. Chris Paul was the late hero, scoring 14 points in the final quarter to secure the 129-109 win.
Doncic starts hot, fades late
The Suns weren’t able to contain Luka Doncic in Game 1, but they did a good job keeping everyone else quiet. They did the same thing in the second game of the series, as Doncic paced the Mavs, but none of the other role players had an impact in the loss on Wednesday. Spencer Dinwiddie and Jaylen Brunson combined for 20 points on 6/22 shooting.
The Suns had a steamy start thanks to Micael Bridges and Deandre Ayton. In the snap of a finger the Suns led 9-0, but Luka as he so often does brought the Mavs storming back.
Doncic scored 14 points in the opening quarter, but Phoenix kept the Mavs at a distance shooting 65% from the field going into the second.
Booker and Paul take over in second
Dallas went on a run at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second, with Doncic on the bench mind you. The 22-8 spell put the Mavs up for the first time in the entire series early in the second quarter.
Luka went to half with 24 points and the Mavericks led 60-58, while Devin Booker had just 9 and Chris Paul posted 8 going into the locker room.
Booker wasted no time getting on track in the second half, scoring eight quick points to give the Suns a lead which they wouldn’t give up for the rest of the game.
Another fantastic finish for Paul
Booker ended the game with 30 points after a brilliant second half in which he scored 21. He and Chris Paul took turns taking over the game. After Booker’s run to start the third, Paul scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, and nearly went perfect in the second half hitting his first 9 shots after halftime.
The lead stretched to over 20 halfway through the final quarter, and Jason Kidd was forced to swap his subs in with the game being out of reach.
The Suns now look to stay hot as they head to Dallas for Game 3. Tip off from Amrican Airlines Stadium is set for Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The other top seed in the NBA, the Miami Heat, are on the verge of takeing a 2-0 series lead over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Booker back in the starting five for the third straight game after coming back from injury in the first round. For me, this is the strongest starting five in the leauge. It's deep from top to bottom and each one of these guys can beat you.

Chris Paul followed his playoff record performance in which he hit 14 of 14 shots to close out the New Orleans Pelicans with a 7-13 night in Game 1. His assist numbers have gone down over those games, but if the Suns keep winning Paul won't mind.
Luka all alone?
Jason Kidd spoke about it after the Game 1 loss. Who is going to step to the stage and help Luka Doncic get the Mavs back in this series? Spencer Dinwiddie and Jaylen Brunson were brilliant in the games Doncic had to sit out in the first round, but Brunson had 13 while Dinwiddie scores just 8 in the opening game of the series.

Chris Paul spoke to reporters after the game, and while he was happy about the win, he wanted to make sure that the Suns don’t let a late lead almost slip like they did in Game 1 when a 21 point fourth quarter advantage was cut to five, "We'll take the win," Paul said. "It's not always going to be pretty. We played well most of the game. We'll look at the film and see what we need to do differently for Game 2."

Kidd wants help for Doncic
Doncic looked unstoppable for much of Game 1, but didn’t get much help from his supporting cast. Mavs coach Jason Kidd sang the Slovenian’s praises, but called for his teammates to show up for the rest of the series. "He got whatever he wanted, when you look at the shots in the paint, behind the arc, midrange, and then also I thought he got his teammates some great looks that we normally had made," Dallas coach Jason Kidd said afterward. "I thought he played great. We've just got to get someone to join the party."
