NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced today that the Footprint Center, home of the Phoenix Suns, will be the venue for the 2027 All-Star Game. With this, the city of Arizona will receive the league’s all-star weekend for the fourth time in its history. The first took place in 1975 with games following in 2005 and 2009.

The commissioner made the official announcement together with owner Matt Ishbia and Arizona Governor Kathleen Marie Hobbs. Silver appreciated the businessman's impact on the Phoenix community.

Ishbia’s impact

“Without further ado, it’s my honor to announce that the 2027 All-Star Game will be here at the Footprint Center. Congratulations!” the commissioner said. “And just a few thank yous from me - Matt (Ishbia), thank you for your enthusiasm and encouraging the league to get back here so quickly; to your brother Justin, to Josh Bartelstein, the entire Suns organization - thank you for your support. Matt, as you know, has made his mark on this community quickly. I think it’s been almost exactly a year since he became the governor of this team and one of the first things he said to me was, ‘How quickly can we get All Star back here?’”

Ishbia, who bought the WNBA’s Suns and Phoenix Mercury for $4 million in 2022, said he hopes those who visit the city will leave with a memorable memory.

Phoenix beats the competition to the All Star

“We set the vision of what we want. We think Phoenix is one of the best basketball cities in the country,” the Suns owner said “All these other teams wanted it. For a new owner, a new CEO, a structure to come in and win it so early is definitely not common and that’s a tribute to Josh and his team and all the people in Phoenix that put the work in and make it so that we were the obvious choice. They could not give it to us because we did everything the right way and we’re really proud and appreciative of (NBA Commissioner) Adam Silver and the NBA for allowing us to have it, but we’re going to make it an amazing weekend and really highlight our amazing community in Phoenix”.

The move means that the next three All-Star Game venues will all be played in the west or southern parts of the United States: the Chase Center in San Francisco, of the Golden State Warriors will stage the 2025 game, the Intuit Dome home of the Los Angeles Clippers in Inglewood in 2026 and lastly the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

The preparations to host the NBA All-Star in Phoenix will benefit from a preview with this season’s WNBA All-Star Game to take place in the city this summer. The Phoenix Mercury will be in charge of receiving the best players in the league between the 18 and 20 July. On Thursday the 18th, the players will arrive in the city and a day later after giving a clinic with the community, the Skills Challenge and the Triples Challenge will take place. The game will be on Saturday the 20th at the Footprint Center.
