NBA world reacts to latest Lakers-Giannis rumor: “Delusional package”
Fans aren’t buying the Lakers’ rumored Giannis trade framework, with many calling the proposal unrealistic.
The Los Angeles Lakers are once again at the center of blockbuster speculation, but the latest trade buzz involving Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t landing well with fans.
Following a report from Shams Charania outlining a potential trade framework, social media quickly lit up with skepticism over whether the Milwaukee Bucks would even consider such an offer.
NBA fans roast latest Giannis-to-Lakers trade idea
According to the report, the Lakers could assemble a package centered around multiple future first-round picks, several pick swaps, and salary flexibility to absorb Antetokounmpo’s contract.
It might sound okay at first, but fans pointed out one big issue. Those picks may not carry much value.
If the Lakers were to pair Giannis with Luka Doncic, who has been with Los Angeles since 2025, those future selections would likely fall late in the draft. Many fans argued that a pick-heavy package without elite young talent simply wouldn’t be enough to land a two-time MVP.
Some of the most viral reactions included:
“This isn’t 2K. The Bucks hang up immediately.”
“So… late firsts and swaps for Giannis? Be serious.”
“Who says no? Milwaukee in about two seconds.”
“We’ve reached the ‘just throw picks at it’ stage of Lakers rumors again.”
The common theme here is that quantity doesn’t equal quality and especially in a deal for a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber. But beyond draft picks, the Lakers’ roster construction also drew scrutiny.
While players like Austin Reaves have value, fans noted that he may not fit a rebuilding timeline in Milwaukee. The Lakers lack a clear “blue-chip” young centerpiece and supporting pieces alone wouldn’t headline a Giannis deal. That combination led many to label the rumored offer as uncompetitive compared to the rest of the league.
Even if Antetokounmpo were to become available, the Lakers wouldn’t be alone. Other teams frequently mentioned as potential suitors include the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Several of those teams could offer stronger combinations of young talent, draft capital, and immediate competitiveness, all factors that would likely matter in any serious negotiation.
The idea of Giannis in Los Angeles alongside Luka Doncic is undeniably intriguing. But if the latest reactions are any indication, fans aren’t convinced the Lakers currently have the assets to make it happen.
