NBA’s heaviest players list highlights Knicks star’s dramatic weight gain
Guerschon Yabusele’s dramatic summer weight gain has made the Knicks forward one of the NBA’s heaviest, but has fueled questions about his form.
The NBA revealed team rosters and player details ahead of the season, and in New York, one name has sparked conversation: Guerschon Yabusele. The French forward swapped the Philadelphia 76ers for the Knicks this summer after a solid return to the NBA, where he averaged 11 points and 5.6 rebounds over 70 games. Now, in the Big Apple, all eyes are on his weight.
The Knicks’ biggest stars
New York released jersey numbers, positions, heights, and weights for the entire roster, and Yabusele tops the list at 283 pounds. The number stands out for several reasons.
First, he is not the tallest player on the team. Four Knicks exceed his height: Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson at 7 feet, and Trey Jemison and Ariel Hukporti at nearly 6-foot-11. Yabusele comes in at 6-foot-8, well below these teammates.
Yabusele races up list of heaviest NBA players
Even more striking is his weight gain since last season. When he joined the 76ers, he weighed 258 pounds. One year later, he has added roughly 25 pounds. That now makes him the fifth heaviest player in the NBA, behind Zach Edey (304 pounds), Jusuf Nurkic (288 pounds), and just behind Nikola Jokic and Zion Williamson, who are slightly heavier at 284 pounds each.
Fans react with concern and curiosity
Knicks fans have taken to social media to discuss the numbers. Some worry about Yabusele’s conditioning, while others see potential upside, suggesting he could slide into the center role if the team needs him. Early games, however, haven’t offered much reassurance.
Early-season struggles
Yabusele has appeared in five of six Knicks games so far. He played 12, 13, and 16 minutes in the first three matchups, far below the 27.1 minutes he averaged in Philadelphia but reasonable for a rotation player on a team eyeing the Finals. Still, his presence produced little impact. In the last two games, he logged just five total minutes, essentially falling out of the rotation.
Alongside reduced playing time, his numbers have dipped. Field goal percentage has dropped from 50.1 to 32.1 percent, three-point shooting from 38 to 22.2 percent, and free throw accuracy has plummeted from 72.5 percent to zero, as he hasn’t yet attempted a single free throw. Combined with his weight, Yabusele’s early-season performance has Knicks fans puzzled and concerned.
