According to ESPN, forward OG Anunoby will sign a new five-year deal worth a whopping $212.5 million with the New York Knicks, with the contract also set to include a player option and a trade kicker.

Anunoby, who will turn 27 on July 17, joined at the start of the 2024 calendar, arriving from the Toronto Raptors.

At both the Knicks and the Raptors across the previous season, the London-born forward averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 50 games.

Anunoby reportedly declined player option

Sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the player was set to put pen to paper on a deal worth in excess of $200 million, with USA Today also confirming the news.

They said that “Anunoby earlier this week declined his player option, which allowed him to become a free agent” while adding that both the Knicks and Anunoby “took advantage of a new rule that allows teams to negotiate with their own free agents after the Finals and before free agency begins on June 30″.

They also added that the franchise “reached a deal to acquire guard-forward Mikal Bridges from Brooklyn for four unprotected first-round draft picks and other assets”. At the time, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski called it, “A steep price to land one of the league’s most coveted trade assets” while adding that “the Nets get a massive haul to replenish assets and embark on a rebuild with mass cap space and future draft picks.”

The Knicks, while they looked strong in the post-season, ultimately failed against the Indiana Pacers, losing after 7 games.

If the deals come off, a starting side of Bridges, Anunoby, Brunson, Randle and Robinson, along with DiVincenzo and Hart off the bench, could certainly propel them to another level as they look to end their NBA trophy drought.
