Update:

The LeBron rumour-wheel continues to spin like a frenzied piranha as chattering teeth open and close to the rhythm of noises regarding his future in the NBA.

In a bold, albeit cryptic, statement this week, veteran sports agent Rich Paul spoke of such a topic, and revealed where he believes the veteran will finish this season at the elite level of basketball.

Paul insisted that his client LeBron James will close out the 2025-26 NBA season wearing the purple and gold of the Los Angeles Lakers. When pressed on whether LeBron could be headed elsewhere, the reply was telling: “No,” Paul said. “Where’s he gonna go? ... Does LeBron make the Knicks better? Yes, he would, of course, but 29 other teams would say the same thing.”

This comes on the heels of LeBron exercising his $52.6 million player option for 2025-26. That move guarantees his presence for the upcoming season, his 23rd, and cements his spot as the only NBA player to reach that milestone.

Yet LeBron’s return hasn’t been smooth. A dodgy sciatica sidelined him for the first half of the season. His comeback on November 18 marked the first time in his storied career he missed a season opener. On debut against the Utah Jazz, he logged a respectable 11 points and 12 assists.

Then came the night no one saw coming: a modest 8-point performance in a win over the Toronto Raptors snapped his nearly 1,300-game streak of scoring 10+ points in regular-season contests, continuous numbers that dated back to 2007.

Despite the assuredness in Paul’s voice, many around the league expect this season could mark an ending, either for his time in L.A. or his entire career. The contract’s expiration, coupled with a Lakers organization increasingly built around Doncic, raises legitimate questions.
