There’s nothing like having money to spend, with no thought of what the future holds. That seems to be the case for Russell Westbrook, whose future in the Los Angeles Lakers is not assured after a first season where they failed to make the playoffs, and a second that has started in a most disappointing way.

In fact, transfer rumors have been the order of the day in recent weeks and his role in the team has been reduced to the point of becoming the sixth man. But the uncertainty does not seem to stop Westbrook and his wife, Nina Earl, from making a significant purchase, since the couple has acquired what until recently was the home of Petra Ecclestone, the youngest daughter of Bernie Ecclestons, long-time boss of Formula 1.

Westbrook has forked out a whopping $37 million to take over the property located in Brentwood Park, between Santa Monica and Los Angeles, and literally opposite that of his partner LeBron James. The modern farmhouse-style mansion was built in 2018, has eight bedrooms and 13 bathrooms spread.

The sale, which is reported by various US media such as The Spun or Dirt, has been confirmed by Petra Ecclestone’s husband, real estate agent Sam Palmer, although without revealing the name of the buyer.

“I am delighted to announce the sale of our family home, Vita Nova, in Los Angeles. In 2019, Petra Ecclestone and I purchased a modern farmhouse and spent several months redesigning it, upgrading materials and finishes, and adjusting the floor plan to provide a better flow for our family life,” Palmer said in an Instagram post.

The couple sold the mansion for $10 million more than what they originally paid for it.

Palmer also congratulates himself for having completed the transaction “in record time” given the difficult times in the real estate market in Los Angeles. But there’s nothing like finding an elite athlete who will pocket some $47 million this season and has earned more than $300 million throughout his career.

It has not yet ben determined if Westbrook will remain in the Los Angeles franchise or if he will be sent to another destination far from his brand new property. The player, who has developed most of his career in the Oklahoma City Thunder, in the best-case scenario will remain for the rest of the season in Los Angeles.

What will happen next is a mystery since at the end of the campaign he will become a free agent, and it remains to be seen if he will be able to enjoy his recent purchase.
