Just a few days ago, LeBron James broke the record for most points scored in the NBA, a record previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, which reopened the debate about who is the greatest basketball player of all time.

Shaquille slams LeBron modesty

During the game broadcast, in which the LA Lakers were defeated 133-130 by Oklahoma City Thunder, Shaquille O’Neal jokingly tried to get James to call himself the best player of all time. The response, with a laugh, was as humble as could be: “I’m gonna let everybody else decide who that is.”

“It was a professional jealousy moment,” commented O’Neal to Melvin Robert of the media outlet Extra.

Shaquille O’Neal, who had impressive numbers in the NBA himself, also admitted that he wouldn’t have been as humble as LeBron James on the night he broke the record.

“If it was me, I would have been arrogant for 19 seconds… I know he is a humble kid, I know he is going to give the answer, ‘I don’t want to be involved in the debate of who the greatest,’ I am jealous of having the conversation...”

O’Neal is ranked eighth on the list of all-time leading scorers in the NBA with 28,596 points.

“It is nice to be ‘Who’s the greatest? Him, or him?’ Everybody would love to be in that position,” Shaq added.
