Team USA takes shape ahead of Paris 2024 Olympic Games
USA Basketball will need 12 players to make up the team that will participate in the Summer Games with some NBA superstars expected to shine.
With five months remaining until the start of the basketball tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the United States team is getting closer to finalizing the 12 representatives who will vie for the gold medal.
Who will play for Dream Team USA at 2024 Olympics?
USA Basketball has selected 41 players to form a preliminary list of the team that will participate in the Olympic Games, and some of the fixed names are NBA superstars. According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the players considered guaranteed for the Olympics are Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, and Devin Booker.
Among them, only two have won the summer tournament on more than one occasion. Durant has three gold medals (2012, 2016, and 2020) and LeBron James has two gold medals (2012 and 2020) along with one bronze (2004).
Jrue Holiday also considered for Paris 2024
Another player from the preliminary list who is almost certain to be among the 12 chosen is guard Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics. According to The Athletic, the former Milwaukee Bucks player has committed to playing with USA Basketball in the summer.
With the addition of Holiday, seven of the 12 available spots for Paris 2024 would be filled. Among the candidates from the preliminary list are Bam Adebayo, Jarrett Allen, Paolo Manchero, Desmond Bane, Scottie Barnes, Miles Bridges, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Jimmy Butler, Alex Caruso, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, De’Aaron Fox, Paul George, Aaron Gordon, Tyrese Haliburton, James Harden, Josh Hart, Tyler Herro, Chet Holmgren, Brandon Ingram, Kyrie Irving, Jaren Jackson Jr., Cam Johnson, Walker Kessler, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Chris Paul, Bobby Portis, Austin Reaves, Duncan Robinson, and Derrick White.
